Tattoos - The New-Age Ticket
Whether it be a unique marketing tactic or a new-age form of currency, The Shaky Knees Music Festival has begun a new tattoo trend - an ‘SK’ tattoo as an entry ticket to the festival. Shaky Knees offers lifetime entry for those willing to get their initials ‘SK’ tattooed anywhere on their body. Although there are certain criteria for the tattoo to qualify, it's pretty simple:
✓ The tattoo must have ‘SK’ somewhere in it
✓ The tattoo must be at least the size of a silver dollar
✓ The rest is up to you!
You can still buy a ticket to the event, although the music festival tends to sell out fast - as most of them do! The festival tickets cost around $250 for a three-day pass whereas a new tattoo might only set you back about $100. That’s $100 bucks for a lifetime of music festival fun! HELL YEAH to that!!
The tattoo trend was such as success that it was reported last year that nearly 3,000 people waited at will call to register their ‘SK’ tattoos, all receiving guaranteed entry as promised. Social media was flooded with photos from the festival, many attendees showing off their tattoos via #shakyknees for the world to see. Can you think of a better marketing method than a tattoo that lasts forever? We can’t!
But as predicted, the tattoo trend worked all too well and the festival has officially closed registration for ‘SK’ tattoos as of 2019. For all the folks who got their ‘SK’ tats in the years prior, LUCKY YOU! The Shaky Knees Festival has successfully “branded” themselves on thousands of music/tattoo lovers - finding a way to join both cultures and bring like-minded individuals together for a weekend of good times and epic memories.
However, it’s not just the community aspect of this music festival that we are attracted to, it’s the amazing music and the COME AS YOU ARE mentality that really catches our eye. We love a music festival that can make everyone feel united and that’s what Shaky Knees is all about. Being that the festival is held in Atlanta Georgia, their Southern Hospitality, and even better - their Southern Cooking, is on point! With tons of local vendors and fun activities for you to choose from, there is something to do for everyone.
URBAMERICAN is always on the lookout for new trends in both the tattoo and music worlds, which we will share with you right here on our blog. And make sure to stay tuned for more music festivals updates- the season is just getting started. Let’s just hope that the next time a music festival starts a ‘tattoo for entry’ trend, we jump on it before it’s too late!
Quarantine is the pits. While it’s important to stay safe and distant from others during this time, the walls in our office do start to feel like they are closing in on us at times. Does anyone else feel like that? So, we decided to take matters into our own hands with two simple words - road trip.
